A documentary following Ukrainians displaced by russia’s full-scale invasion and the people who welcomed them across three European countries.

Since russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, millions of people have crossed Europe’s borders in search of safety. Somewhere, After Leaving follows this journey beyond the headlines.
     Filmed across Poland, Romania and the United Kingdom, the documentary brings together the experiences of displaced Ukrainians and the ordinary people, volunteers and organisations who responded, opening their homes and creating networks of support, often before institutions had time to react. Rather than focusing on the moment of escape, the film observes what follows: the slow reconstruction of everyday life, the uncertainty of belonging, and the unexpected relationships that emerge between strangers.
     Combining observational scenes, intimate interviews and reflective narration, the film explores what happens when people divided by language, culture and national borders suddenly become part of one another’s lives and asks what borders really mean when human solidarity begins to dissolve them.
